Investigates

Investigates perception through sustained attention.

Statement

EARTH emerged from a simple observation. While walking through New York City, I found myself repeatedly looking down. Not out of sadness, but out of curiosity. The sidewalks became landscapes. Cracks became compositions. Weathered concrete, paint, shadows, and fragments of everyday life began revealing patterns I had previously walked past without noticing.

Originally, I imagined photographing the world from above. I dreamed of learning to fly, photographing the landscape from an airplane, and discovering hidden geometries from the air. Instead, I discovered something far more meaningful. The extraordinary was already beneath my feet.

Presented as diptychs, the photographs invite moments of comparison rather than documentation. Small shifts in framing begin altering perception, encouraging the viewer to slow down and notice relationships that ordinarily disappear beneath routine. Looking back, I understand EARTH as the beginning of an inquiry that continues throughout my practice. Not an investigation of sidewalks. An investigation of perception itself. How attention transforms experience. How beauty often exists long before we learn to recognize it.

Research Question

What becomes visible when we begin paying attention to what is usually overlooked?

Finding

Perception changes before the world does. Sometimes the most profound shift is simply learning to see what has been there all along.
